GET A LIBRARY CARD – Muskoka Lakes Public Library (with branches in Port Carling and Bala)

You can apply for library membership by visiting the library. Adults, teens and children can all apply for a library card.

Eligibility

  • Residents or property owners in the Township of Muskoka Lakes can get a library card for free.
  • Residents or property owners in the District of Muskoka can also get a free card due to mutual borrowing agreements with other libraries in Muskoka.
  • Non-residents of Muskoka can pay a $25  fee to become a member for a six-month period.

Identification

To get a library card, you will need to show acceptable identification to verify name and address for membership registration. Documents are used to verify name and address only. No other information on the document(s) presented is kept on the record. A valid Ontario Driver’s License is acceptable as a single document. In other cases acceptable identification and proof of current address is required.

  • Citizenship card
  • Passport
  • School ID card
  • Other government issued photo ID

Proof of address

  • Utility bill (telephone, hydro, water, gas, cable TV)
  • Motor vehicle permit
  • Mortgage, rental or lease agreement
  • Property tax assessment or bill
  • Insurance policy (property, auto, life)
  • Employer record (pay stub or letter from employer)
  • Secondary school, college, or university report card or transcript
  • Bank account statement

Library Board meetings are held in the Elizabeth H. Glen Heritage Room at the Port Carling branch and are open to the public.

Friends of the Library

A volunteer, charitable, organization comprised of individuals from across the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
 
What are Friends for?
  • To help raise funds to purchase equipment and materials not available through the regular Library Budget
  • It is the Friends’ goal to increase the use of the library facilities and services and to help nurture the appreciation of literature and culture in our communities
  • The Friends work throughout the year to provide programs for children and adults that will be of interest and value to the community. Programs are fun as well as educational and are designed to expand the awareness of the many services provided by the community libraries
  • The Library Board and the Township of Muskoka Lakes Municipal Council are responsible for the operation of the Township libraries. The Friends support the Library Board and Library staff to help make our libraries a comfortable and stimulating place to be

People interested in becoming a Friend of the Township of Muskoka Lakes Public Library can do so by printing off the membership form and emailing to MLPLfriends@gmail.com or by returning the form to the Norma and Miller Alloway Library  69 Joseph Street Port Carling, Ontario.

New members are always welcome ~ There is no membership fee to become a Friend but donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated. Receipts for income tax purposes will be issued on request.
