Children and Teen Programming

Pre-school Hour 2019-2020
Sept 10, 2019 - May 12, 2020

(for children born 2015 and later)

Tuesdays 10:30-11:30 Activities on the lower level for first ½ hour (outside in fair weather), followed by story and song in the children’s department for the last ½ hour.

NOTE: the library asks that no food be brought by parents to the library to distribute to other children. To respect the food sensitivities of all, only fruits and vegetables are given during story hour. This includes special holidays and celebrations. As well, please no sharing of celebration food in the lunch room following the program hour unless you have specifically made arrangements to rent the room for your celebration.  We thank you for your cooperation.  Funds for this program gratefully acknowledged from the Port Carling Lions Club.

The Creative Kids Art Club

(for ages 8-teen)

Saturdays 11:00am – 12 noon: October 27th – December 15th, 2018 & January 12th – May 11th, 2019

Pre-register 705-765-5650. Learn and explore arts and crafts with Nancy at the library in Port Carling.

Lego Club

(for school age children and their families.)

Watch for start up in October 2019. School age children and their families are invited to build with LEGO at the Port Carling branch library on Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Participants will be challenged to build to a weekly theme. Following the 45 minute construction time, builders are invited to write a short description of their creation and then tell about it to the group. Following clean up, pizza will be served!

NOTE: Children’s programs at the library are cancelled when school buses are cancelled.

Pyjama Yoga

(for school-age children)

Children are encouraged to come to the library wearing comfortable sleepwear and to bring a small, favourite stuffed toy to class with them. They’ll be guided through some fun yoga poses and stretches and end the class with some relaxation and meditation to help get them ready for bed. Limited space. Adults are not in the room with the children but must remain in the building.

Choir

(for Grade 1-6 students)

Thursdays, April to May 4:30-5:45

Children are invited to join choir masters Kathy McCarthy and Sarah Lundy, who strive to bring a love of music and music education to our local children with the Muskoka Children’s Choir. Free!

Adult Programming

Coffee Break with Us

Once a month, through the ‘gray’ months, the library in Port Carling hosts a morning of free coffee, tea, and treats for the community. Often, a guest presenter is invited to share, in a 10-15 minute presentation, their new business or passion.

Drop-in and chit chat with your neighbours from 10-11:30am on the last Wednesday of the month, Jan-April. Guests, when available, are introduced at 10:40am.
